edding L.A.Q.U.E. FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions about edding L.A.Q.U.E. ®

General questions

How good is the coverage of edding L.A.Q.U.E.?
The high-pigment formula provides maximum colour density and coverage.

Where does edding L.A.Q.U.E. get its smell from?
Ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, so-called “aromatic hydrocarbons”, are responsible for the characteristic smell of nail varnish.

How does the varnish react to heat? Do the properties of the varnish change at a certain temperature?
Yes, the varnish should be stored between 5 and 25°C. Temperatures below 0°C are not a problem, since nail varnish does not freeze. However, it does become very viscous. If it is warmed up rapidly, this can have a negative impact on product stability. It is recommended to bring the nail varnish back to room temperature slowly (over the course of a day). Do not apply the nail varnish at temperatures above 50°C (too warm!).

When I wear varnish, why do my nails develop a yellowish tinge more quickly in sunlight?
It’s not the nails, but the nail varnish. Light turns nitrocellulose yellow.

What is a base coat?A base coat is a protective coat applied between the nail and the varnish that prevents the nail from yellowing.

Do the darker shades stain nails like with other varnishes, or can I do without a base coat?
Many pigments do not stain the nails. Especially more intensive or darker shades contain pigmentation that is microscopically small and that can pass over into the nail structure. However, these pigments are being washed out after a couple of days. When using darker shades it is recommended to use a base coat.

What is a top coat?
A top coat provides a protective layer over the nail varnish. When applied over a colour varnish, it increases its gloss and durability.

Why does nail varnish chip? All nail varnish chips. The natural growth of nails over time can cause the film of varnish to chip.

Why does a layer of liquid form on top of the nail varnish when it is left for a while?
Due to stability criteria such as syneresis, sedimentation or separation, in which the colour pigments separate from the solvents. However, this isn’t a problem – if the nail varnish is shaken well, it can be used as normal. This doesn’t affect the quality of the varnish.

Why does the nail varnish change under store lighting?
The influence of heat and light can be possible factors of a change in colour (this process is called Nitrocellulose).

Does the varnish contain substances that could be harmful if they came into contact with cuts in the skin?
No, but it could cause a burning sensation.

How does edding L.A.Q.U.E. react to salt water?
Whether salt water or fresh water, nail varnish is permeable to liquids. Extended periods in water can have a negative impact on a varnish’s properties, for example the gloss and adhesion to nails.

How does edding L.A.Q.U.E. react to disinfectants?
Disinfectants such as Sterilium have no effect on the properties of the nail varnish.

Are the products tested on animals?
Disinfectants such as Sterilium have no effect on the properties of the nail varnish.

Does edding L.A.Q.U.E. contain nickel?
No, edding L.A.Q.U.E. does not contain nickel or any other heavy metal.

Does edding L.A.Q.U.E. have a minimum shelf life?
Yes, 36 months. If the container is sealed, a nail varnish is usable for many years. Five or six years is possible without any problems.

How exactly is it different from gel or UV nail varnish?
Classic nail varnishes dry through the evaporation of solvents. UV or gel varnishes harden under a UV lamp and are primarily used in nail and beauty salons. New so-called “hybrid” varnishes dry in sunlight, with no UV lamp required.

Questions regarding application

How do I remove edding L.A.Q.U.E.?
Simply use standard nail varnish remover. Acetone-based removal products remove varnish more effectively and are less greasy than ones without acetone. Non-acetone nail varnish removers are recommended for acrylic or gel nails.

How long does edding L.A.Q.U.E. take to dry?
Not long at all. The first coat only takes around a minute. The second takes approx. two minutes.

How can I speed up the drying process?
With an express dryer/dropper with polish dryer (silicone-based).

Why does edding L.A.Q.U.E. become viscous after a while?
The solvents evaporate over time in all nail varnish. It is always recommended to shake nail varnish well before use in order to make it easier to apply.

Does edding L.A.Q.U.E. also adhere to gel or acrylic nails?
Yes. edding L.A.Q.U.E. also adheres to gel or acrylic nails.
